Wattree: Sounds like you have an atypical reaction than most people when it comes to digesting beans. Some folks who aren't used to a high fiber diet deal with a little flatulence, which can be minimized with enzyme supplements such as Beano. Your reaction is more severe. Have you discussed this with a doctor or a naturopath to determine if you are allergic? Perhaps it's a particular bean that sets you off or there may be a method to introduce them into your diet very slowly. It may be worth an inquiry.

I used to have that prejudice against beans, because I was growing and my mother was trying to get through college that's all we ate.

After I became an adult, finally managed to get past that, and now that I've developed a taste for them, they turn into cement inside me. I can eat one bean and get indigestion so bad that I'll have to go to the emergency room.

Is there a remedy for that? Because now I have dreams about chili beans with plenty of ground beef, Lousiana hot sauce, shredded cheese, and garlic.

You'd think I'd have a problem with the cheese and hot sauce, but I don't have a problem with that at all. But those beans - they're a killer.
